Schunk Electronic Solutions takes over Achat Engineering

With the acquisition of Achat Engineering, Schunk Electronic Solutions is expanding its portfolio to include board handling and AOI classification systems and will offer customers an integrated portfolio for the implementation of scalable, digitally networked production systems in electronics manufacturing.

Schunk takes over Achat Engineering: Nick Heronim (Managing Director and Partner, Achat Engineering), Jürgen Schaffhausen (Founder and Partner, Achat Engineering), Ralf Vetter (Managing Director, Schunk Electronic Solutions), Kristina I. The two companies have been working together as partners in electronics and SMT (surface mount technology) production for many years. With the takeover, the complementary technology portfolio will now be more closely interlinked: Achat complements the existing depaneling and modular inline solutions from Schunk Electronic Solutions with board handling modules, digital inspection solutions in AOI processes (VinCam) and solutions for connecting and controlling automated guided vehicles (AGV) in intralogistics. This results in an integrated offering ranging from stand-alone systems to end-to-end inline and smart factory architectures.

"The merger is the logical step for us: we are expanding our portfolio in a targeted manner to enable a more modular and flexible offering for electronic assembly production as a holistic solution from a single source," says Ralf Vetter, Managing Director of Schunk Electronic Solutions. To ensure continuity and know-how, Achat founder Jürgen Schaffhausen will continue to support the company in an advisory capacity. In addition, Nick Heronim will take over the management of the board handling and AOI classification systems.

Achat Engineering was founded in 2002. The company is based in Lengede and currently employs 23 people. The two companies serve common segments of electronics production, including SMT assembly, and share a commitment to co-innovation, partnership-based collaboration and consistent process digitalization through to the vision of the 'dark factory', a fully automated production process.

Schunk Electronic Solutions, based in St. Georgen, Germany, offers a modular machine construction kit for automated electronics production. In addition to central processes such as depaneling, THT and press-fit assembly as well as dispensing, the portfolio includes a wide range of services for a wide variety of requirements. The company is part of the Schunk Group.
