Torque modules

Torque measurement and drive in one

Promess will be presenting its UDM5 universal torque modules at Automatica. The systems are used wherever the customer places high demands on the accuracy of torque measurement under high mechanical loads.

The universal torque modules combine drive and precise torque measurement in one system. The units are used to precisely control angular positions, accurately apply load torque and easily record and monitor process data. Seven sizes are available to the user for the torque range from 1.5 to 200 Newton meters. The measuring principle of the UDM5 does not follow that of a conventional measuring shaft. The intelligent measuring structure is completely decoupled from the rotary movement of the output shaft and is therefore much more resistant to interference, for example from external shaft loads. The result is high measuring accuracy for torque and angle and therefore higher product quality.

Encoders with absolute position feedback are used for path measurement. This reduces the effort required by the customer to align their tools using external sensors and significantly reduces commissioning times. A customer-specific output shaft, which can be manufactured with customer-specific tool orientation, also contributes to this. Typical applications for the torque modules include measuring breakaway, detent or friction torques of rolling bearings under defined preload or functional tests such as switches, valves, ball bearings or torsional dampers. Integration into an assembly line is also possible in order to carry out a cold test of electric motors.

The universal torque modules are supplied as standard with the PDM-S digital preamplifier from Promess and the V5 programming software. With its database structure, the software offers all options for process documentation. Standardized interfaces to QS-STAT and IPM are optionally available for data analysis. as
