In May, Sumitomo acquired the Italian drive specialist Lafert. The aim of the acquisition is to further position itself as a solution provider in the field of electrification of industrial machines, among other things. The first jointly developed products can be seen at SPS IPC Drives, including a drive solution for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) consisting of a motor, a gearbox and a flange-mounted rim with tires.

At the heart of the system is the Altax gearbox with a nominal speed of 3,000 min-1 (max. 4,400 min-1). Other features of the low-noise gearbox include a radial and axial load of 1,500 N, an efficiency of 89%, low inertia and high shock overload capacity. The B63Y motor is available in five versions with torques from 6 to 14 Nm and optionally with a brake.
