Lubricant-free plummer block for the food industry
Igus has developed a pillow block bearing with ball bearings made from the FDA-compliant high-performance plastic Xirodur B180. According to the manufacturer, the new smooth-running Xiros bearing saves the user 83 percent in weight compared to metal solutions. Thanks to the identical dimensions of the hole spacing, 1:1 replacement is quick and easy.
Pillow block bearings play a key role in the food industry, on roller conveyors or conveyor belts: they ensure that the shafts rotate smoothly even under heavy loads. Metal pillow block bearings have a high level of friction due to their seal and grease filling. This means, for example, that the rollers of a conveyor belt no longer rotate and the belt wears out. The pillow block bearing with ball bearings made of Xirodur B180 runs smoothly and is also corrosion-resistant thanks to its material and the stainless steel balls used.
The plummer block can be flushed and is suitable for application environments of up to 80 °C. The bearing can withstand high loads of up to 50 kilograms at up to 850 revolutions per minute. The manufacturer currently offers the pillow block bearing for shafts with a diameter of 25 millimeters. Other sizes are available on request. sw
