Phonix Contact has feed-in controllers certified

Phoenix Contact has developed a new control unit for energy generation systems (EZA), which has been tested by the independent measuring institute Windtest Grevenbroich and certified by the certifier Moeller Operating Engineering (M.O.E.).

This means that the new EZA controller now meets all the requirements of the VDE-AR-N 4110 and VDE-AR-N 4120 guidelines, which stipulate that all energy generation systems that feed into the German medium or high-voltage grid must have a certified control unit since 2019. Regardless of whether it is a combined heat and power plant, wind energy or photovoltaic system - where a manufacturer's declaration was previously sufficient, a certificate from a certification body accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 is now required for all EZA controllers.

Phoenix Contact has specially adapted both the hardware and software of the new EZA controller to the new connection directive. "The particular challenge was to comply with the VDE connection regulation without losing the advantage of an open and still freely programmable control system," explains Christopher Krause, specialist in model-based development at Phoenix Contact.

As the control function is handled by the Phoenix Contact control technology (PLCnext Control) and this supports different development tools, the choice fell on a model-based development of the controller with Matlab/Simulink. To enable the certification body to evaluate the functions and behavior of the EZA controller before commissioning, the company also created a model in accordance with FGW TR4, which behaves in exactly the same way as the EZA controller in the type test. as
