Drive controller

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Compact, for stand-alone applications

A new addition to the Stöber range is the SB6 stand-alone device, which is suitable for applications with up to four axes and is characterized by its high control performance.

The compact and economically attractive drive controller offers numerous configuration options that enable excellent motion control via CiA 402 and PROFIdrive. The SB6 is predestined for special machine manufacturers who need to react flexibly to the changing requirements of their clientele.

With the new SB6, designers always have the right drive controller at hand for applications from one to four axes. The stand-alone solution has numerous configuration options. The series is available in three sizes for small to medium outputs. Both linear and rotary synchronous servomotors and lean motors can be controlled. The new controller is particularly impressive due to its compact dimensions. This means that it fits into control cabinets with installation depths from 210 millimetres. The drive controller can also be extended by the safety standards STO and SS1 via Fail Safe over EtherCAT (FsoE) and PROFIsafe up to SIL 3, PL e (category 4). A safety module for control via digital inputs and outputs is also available. In addition, the SB6 is optionally available with an operating unit consisting of a text display and buttons.

Another special feature is the number of digital and analog inputs and outputs. Stöber thus offers a functional, flexible drive controller that companies can use in various applications. For fast automated commissioning and uncomplicated servicing, an SD card can simply be inserted into the drive controller as an application memory, allowing configurations to be transferred.

In combination with One Cable Solution (OCS) and EnDat3, the new SB6 reliably supports power lengths of up to 100 meters. Stöber developed the hybrid cable in coordination with the encoder manufacturer Heidenhain. In combination with its geared motors, Stöber offers a fully coordinated system from a single source. For the connection to a higher-level control system, firmware-based EtherCAT and Profinet are available.
