At SPS IPC Drives 2018,WEG presented integrated inverter systems for the low-voltage and medium-voltage range manufactured in Europe. The MVW3000 series system inverters for voltages from 2.3 kV to 8 kV and outputs from 280 kW to 2400 kW are produced entirely in Portugal. The special feature: The inverters are offered as a complete system integrated into the control cabinet with disconnector, fuses, multilevel infeed transformer and frequency inverter. They can be combined with WEG low-voltage and medium-voltage motors to create efficient drive solutions. Due to the almost sinusoidal inverter output voltage, the system inverters are also suitable for retrofit projects.

The MVW3000 device series is designed using multilevel technology with cascaded H-bridges (CHB). This makes it possible to achieve output voltage levels in the medium voltage range in a cost-efficient manner using proven standard low-voltage components such as diodes, IGBTs and plastic film capacitors. The converter efficiency, including the transformer, exceeds 95 percent over the entire speed control range. In addition, the MVW3000 is equipped with motor protection devices to protect against overload, overheating and motor-rotor blockage in order to increase reliability and system availability. The power unit and transformer temperature is also permanently monitored.

As a complete system, the MVW3000 simplifies installation and commissioning. The removable power sections ensure easy maintenance and quick replacement. At 3,900 mm wide, 2,210 mm high and 1,100 mm deep, the system inverter has a compact footprint. It can also be optionally equipped with all common industrial protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Devicenet and Ethernet.

Johannes Schwenger, Head of Product Management Drive Systems Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Europe at WEG, explained: "Production in Europe has important advantages for us: The drive and automation systems manufactured meet all European standards from the ground up and we achieve even faster delivery times in the area of application-specific system solutions. Customer acceptance tests with European companies can also be carried out much more quickly and easily."
