Bearings for wind power
NKE Austria has introduced bearings for wind turbine gearboxes and generators. Wind energy is an important area of application for the Steyr-based bearing manufacturer, which has more than 20 years of experience in the OEM wind sector.
To date, NKE bearings have been installed in over 4,000 wind turbines in Europe, the USA and China. NKE bearings are used in the most important components of wind turbines, such as gearboxes and generators, or as main bearings. For example, they can be found in all bearing applications of an Envision gearbox: from the carrier (rotor side, generator side) to the intermediate shaft and planetary shafts through to the high-speed shaft. Another example are the new NKE bearings with Power Density technology: they are only 20 percent larger than conventional bearings, but generate twice as much energy to optimize the performance of wind turbines and extract the maximum possible energy from the air flow.
