Aluminum processing

Daniel Schilling,

New robotic sawing solution

Panels weighing up to 500 kilograms can be processed with the new solution.

The robot arm automates the process and automatically feeds the saw with aluminum panels weighing up to 500 kilograms.

Automating processes is also the way forward in the field of aluminum processing. IMA Schelling offers its new saw-robot combination for companies that cut panels to size. It adds highly efficient material handling to the proven sawing technologies.

If a new processing system is planned, the integration of the robot concept guarantees a significant increase in performance. Customers optimize material handling from saw feeding to the stacking of finished blanks. The saw-robot combination is particularly suitable for cutting aluminum half-size and remnant panels with weights of up to 500 kilograms.

Material Handling

The robot takes on a whole range of tasks and raises the utilization of the saw to a new, previously unattained level: after feeding the material into the robot cell, it lifts it to the saw and takes over the handling of turning and alignment during cutting. The robot stacks finished blanks in programmed positions, as well as residual formats for later reuse. The robot sorts cutting waste according to alloy and disposes of it in separate containers.

The automated processes increase efficiency and shorten processing times. Time-consuming and labor-intensive processes - lifting, turning, stacking - are completed by the robot in fast work cycles, around the clock if required. This reduces the need for scarce human resources at the sawing system. For cuts that can be produced more efficiently with manual work, the new robot naturally leaves the saw to a human operator. If required, the saw-robot solution can be customized with additional functions, such as labelling finished blanks.
