Modernization
Retrofit for future-proof order picking
The automated storage system at Rose Systemtechnik in Porta Westfalica has served the company well for a quarter of a century. However, it can no longer meet current requirements. The company has therefore decided to modernize and expand the system. System integrator Viastore is supplying the hardware, software and know-how for the implementation.
More than 360 employees at Rose Systemtechnik's three sales and production sites in Germany develop and produce industrial enclosures made of aluminum, stainless steel and various thermoplastics for customers in the transport technology, automotive and process industries as well as mechanical and plant engineering. Over time, more and more areas of application have been added for Roese, so that the product range has been expanded to include explosion-proof enclosures as well as operating and display enclosures. "Such growth naturally requires an infrastructure that is adapted to it," explains Artur Schneider, Head of Logistics and Supply Chain at Rose Systemtechnik. The manual warehouse at the Porta Westfalica site, which was commissioned 25 years ago, was no longer up to date and the automated small parts warehouse (AS/RS) with a Viaspeed storage and retrieval machine (SRM) was undersized. The software no longer met the changing requirements of modern intralogistics processes. A future-proof solution was needed. "We opted for a comprehensive retrofit and an expansion of the system by our partner and system integrator Viastore, who had already planned and implemented the original warehouse in 1999," says Schneider.
Warehouse up to date
"Rose expects the conversion to result in fast, future-proof order picking and process-optimized work," says Martin Ziemann, Senior Project Manager Systems at Viastore. "We are supplying a whole range of hardware, software and expertise to achieve this." The existing manual warehouse will be dismantled and replaced by an automated pallet warehouse (APL) with four aisles, 4,420 storage locations and the Viaconvey conveyor system. The miniload will be extensively expanded and converted and will be extended by 1,580 storage locations and a modern Viaspeed SRM. There will also be two new picking stations, a redesigned goods receiving area and an NIO station.
Viastore is also upgrading the control of the entire system. Previously, the Viadat 6.3 warehouse management system (WMS) only managed the old AKL. It will be replaced by the latest version, Viadat 9.3. The project should be completed by April 2025.
