Small controls

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Reliably record process operations

The new analog input module PNOZ m EF 4AI from Pilz extends the product range of configurable, safe small controllers PNOZmulti 2. It can be used to record and monitor any process operations safely up to PL e or SIL CL 3.

A special feature is the independent module program (mIQ), with which values can be set in fine granularity. This ensures faster processing directly in the module. Processes can be monitored more reliably and precisely.

Reliable monitoring includes pressure, temperature, flow rate, distance and fill level as well as rope speed and load. In addition, there are process sequences that include force states, bending processes or displacement measurement.

Intelligent support brings added value

The mIQ module program ensures fast response times with its decentralized processing in the module. PNOZ m EF 4AI provides new software blocks for input, plausibility, scaling and arithmetic functions via the software tool PNOZmulti Configurator. The analog measured values can be scaled into numerical values with any unit of measurement during configuration.

The limit value, range or working range monitoring can be parameterized with just a few mouse clicks using the software tool. The design ensures that the standard measuring range of sensors is reliably maintained, making it easy to apply common industry standards. All in all, the module program enables simple project planning as well as more precise and faster process control.

The analog input module provides four independent, safe analog current inputs from 4 to 20 mA with a resolution of 15 bits plus sign. The measuring range is 0 to 25 mA. The analogue inputs are suitable for connecting transmitters or sensors with standardized current signals.

Faster response minimizes downtime

The arithmetic functions facilitate use and enable more precise and faster diagnostics. Up to six analog values per module can be transferred to a fieldbus, enabling faster process intervention. In combination with the PASvisu visualization software, analogue values can be displayed and evaluated. This also minimizes downtimes.

In addition to a wide range of possible applications in series and special machine construction or in the food and beverage sector, the use of the new analog input module is particularly beneficial for the process and process engineering sectors, for example in burner control systems.
