Tamping machine

Automatically stuffed

In IBG's automatic tamping system, bundled copper pipes (up to 400 pieces) with a length of five meters are automatically tamped. The previous assembly process consisted of manual work outside the plant and during production breaks.

The pipe bundles are now transported from the existing system to the processing area via a conveyor belt and placed on fixtures. An independent robot cell with two Kuka robots is available for the assembly process on each side of the pipe. These have a product-specific setting head that can be adapted to the respective pipe plug variant. A total of five different diameters are processed automatically. The robot setting heads have a bar magazine for storing the plugs.

The solution links the robot controller, the accompanying PLC and the camera. The position of the pipe ends is determined for each robot by a camera system and automatically converted into path points for the robot. The robot moves to the determined positions and installs the plugs in the pipe ends using a setting head. Partially tamped bundles can be subsequently conveyed onto the device and tamped to completion. as
