Motek: Smart solutions for manual assembly

Variant diversity, smaller quantities and shorter product cycles make it necessary to support workers in manual assembly. For example, with data goggles and pick-by-light systems. Smart solutions and intelligent systems for more than just manual assembly will be on show at Motek.

When different product variants are assembled on one line, confusion can arise. In times of a shortage of skilled workers, it is often less qualified workers who have to screw or glue components together. To prevent them from having to recognize the respective variant and assemble parts with errors, there are smart aids such as smart glasses that show which component is to be attached where. Augmented reality on the tablet can also help here by showing the next step via animation. Light signals help to select the right part.

"Such digital solutions avoid errors, speed up the assembly process and thus save costs," sums up Motek project manager Rainer Bachert, who, as organizer at the trade fair company P.E. Schall, puts together the exhibitors and programme according to practical benefits for users and interested parties.

In focus: Assembly automation

In addition to processes that have to be carried out manually, Motek focuses on automated assembly processes. Whether assembly robots equipped with clever algorithms, material handling and feeding systems, driverless transport, gripper system components or software for collision calculation - Motek will present many more innovations, promises the trade fair organizer. What they have in common are intelligent interfaces and the ability to communicate with each other and, above all, with the control system. After all, automation and digitalization are inextricably linked in the Industry 4.0 environment. Modern sensor and image processing technologies, which are indispensable for real-time applications and data evaluation, play an important role in this context.

Soon fully booked, and rising

While two thirds of the exhibition space was already occupied in February, Rainer Bachert can currently only report a few free spaces. As in previous years, the layout of the trade fair will be increasingly oriented towards the structures of everyday production. This will ensure better orientation and shorter distances. Around 40,000 visitors from over 100 nations are expected to visit the 65,000 square meters of gross exhibition space. An attractive supporting program will provide in-depth information on the trends and technologies - always with a view to optimum practical value. as
