The merger will enable Stratasys to expand its position through innovation in the fast-growing mass-production component segment with a next-generation photopolymer platform. Subject to various approvals and other closing conditions, the acquisition is expected to be completed in January 2021.

Stratasys expects Origin's proprietary Programmable PhotoPolymerization (P³) technology to be a key growth driver for the company, adding $200 million in annual revenue within five years. The acquisition is expected to help solidify Stratasys' position in polymers and 3D printing manufacturing applications in industries such as dental, medical, tooling and select industrial, defense and consumer segments.

The Origin team will join Stratasys to lead the development of the technology and product platform, with a global launch via the Stratasys go-to-market organization expected in mid-2021.

Origin's P³ technology, an evolution of Digital Light Processing (DLP), cures liquid photopolymer resin with light. Origin One, the company's first production-quality 3D printer, precisely controls light, heat, force and other parameters via Origin's closed-loop feedback software. This new technology enables customers to produce parts with industry-leading precision, consistency, size and detail using a wide range of commercial, durable plastics.

Origin works with a network of material partners such as Henkel, BASF and DSM to develop materials for its system. Origin One systems have been successfully deployed in a wide range of industries. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the suitability of Origin's technology for production applications, including hundreds of thousands of clinically validated nasopharyngeal swabs, thousands of PPE face shields and splinters for ventilators in hospitals.
