Swiss Steel subsidiary Ugitech is launching a wide range of steels for 3D printing on the market.

The Swiss Steel Group company uses its many years of experience in steel production to offer material of the highest quality for use in additive manufacturing processes. Findings from the company's own research and development center are incorporated into the production of the wires, which were developed primarily for Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM).

WAAM - special manufacturing technology for 3D components

In addition to the powder bed system and powder feed system, the wire-based additive manufacturing process is becoming increasingly important in the steel industry. In wire arc additive manufacturing, the externally supplied welding wire is melted by an electric arc. This creates the desired 3D components layer by layer. The advantages of this manufacturing process are obvious. Large components with lengths of several meters can be produced cost-effectively in a short time.

At up to 5 kg/hour, WAAM technology achieves higher productivity than selective laser melting or electron beam melting. Individual component geometries are created that can only be produced with great effort and increased costs using conventional processes. Near net shape production enables the geometry to be built up quickly with low material consumption and waste.

As the process does not require the use of lasers or powder, no safety precautions are necessary. Overall, WAAM is particularly suitable for the production of large components in the aerospace, construction and shipbuilding sectors, as well as in the oil and gas industry.
