Material database as an open system

Replique, provider of a decentralized 3D printing platform for the production of industrial components, has announced the launch of a comprehensive and open material database for 3D printing users at Formnext. The company aims to make material expertise available to the entire 3D printing community and simplify the industrial use of additive manufacturing (AM) for companies.

Careful and competent material selection is crucial for the feasibility of AM projects. Until now, however, this has been a manual and laborious research process. With Replique's material database, users will now benefit from a user-friendly platform that enables them to select the ideal material for their individual applications, the company promises. This not only saves time and costs, but also ensures the quality of the additively manufactured component in terms of material requirements.

The features of the material database include various filter options, such as technical data, standards and fields of application. It will also enable quick access to reference cases and certificates in the future without the need for time-consuming inquiries. The data records are based on the partnerships established with material manufacturers last year.

"Through our daily work with material data, we already have a valuable treasure trove of information internally, which we would now like to make available to the wider public," says Dr. Henrike Wonneberger, COO and co-founder of Replique.

Cross-system use of the database

However, not only end users, but also printer manufacturers, service providers and other interested companies can use and supplement the database to enrich their work and services with well-founded material knowledge. The advantage here is that the database is designed as an open system. This means that the material data is not only available directly via the Replique platform, but will also be available as an API interface in the future. All data is made available to any interested party behind a free password barrier.

The material database forms another integral part of Replique's ecosystem, which has also integrated other services such as additive marking for the traceability of 3D-printed components.
