3D printing
High-volume 3D printing of the next generation
At the Formnext 2017 trade fair, Stratasys presented its open Voxel Print interface for the full-color multi-material 3D printer J750. The J750 can now be used with the Cuttlefish printer driver from Fraunhofer IGD, which has already been successfully used for previous Stratasys projects.
Cuttlefish is a universal 3D printer driver developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD. It converts 3D scan data or 3D models generated by design and texturing software into 3D prints on the Stratasys J750 printer with highly accurate reproduction of colors and translucencies. The GrabCAD Voxel Print solution for full-color multi-material J750 3D printers opens up the system for use with third-party software.
The printer driver works seamlessly with GrabCAD Voxel Print. This enables versatile applications. For example, award-winning animation studio Laika began using the J750 3D printer, Cuttelfish and Voxel Print more than two years ago for its next, yet-to-be-announced film. While the stop-motion feature film is still in production, Laika has already printed over 80,000 faces using Cuttlefish. sw
