Micro 3D printer for high throughput
3D printer for high component quality and printing speed
Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF) has introduced the microArch S350. The latest model in the range of micro-precision 3D printers for industrial use offers a resolution of 25µm and achieves the highest throughput of any printer in the company's portfolio.
High component quality and printing speed predestine the printing system for the production of series parts for end users. The microArch S350 is based on BMF's patented PµSL technology (projection micro stereolithography). This technology enables the rapid photopolymerization of liquid polymer layers using a UV light flash with micro-precise resolution. With a build volume of 100 x 100 x 50 mm and fewer projection zones, the printing system achieves a high printing speed that is just as noticeable in the production environment as in the laboratory, both for micro-scale parts with high-resolution features and for small components that require high accuracy or precision.
A new automated lateral membrane shift allows for easier part removal or integration of a robotic arm, resulting in greater ease of use and enabling automation of final part production. Other features include automatic resin filling and adjustment, a laser displacement sensor and a redesigned roller that applies the resin layers at a higher speed.
The microArch S350 works with a growing portfolio of engineering and ceramic resins suitable for end-use products. Two new materials are announced with the launch of the microArch S350:
● BMF MED powered by 3D Systems - A rigid, amber-colored material for applications requiring biocompatibility, translucency and/or heat resistance. It produces parts with sharp details that can be sterilized and tested at high temperatures of over 100 °C.
● Loctite 3D 3955 HDT280 FST - High-performance, halogen-free, flame-retardant UL94-V0 photopolymer resin with high modulus, printable at 60°C.
Since BMF launched the microArch system in February 2020, more than 200 customers around the world have installed the company's micro 3D printers for prototyping, R&D and consumer production. Industries pursuing miniaturization, such as electronics, optics/photonics, medical devices, microfluidics and life sciences, are finally able to take advantage of additive manufacturing and innovate in ways that were not possible before.
"BMF has become the industry leader in printing small and microscopic parts that require high resolution, accuracy and precision in the 2µm and 10µm range. Now we are bringing that experience to an even broader range of end-use applications in the 25µm range," said John Kawola, CEO of BMF.
"While this printer is geared more towards industrial customers who need faster throughput, higher volume and more automation, the result is top-notch part quality compared to other DLP platforms. We can't wait to see what our customers achieve with it."
"As one of BMF's first customers, we were blown away by the performance of their high-resolution 3D printing solutions. We recently evaluated BMF's first generation microArch P150 printer, which delivers accuracy that no other system we have used in our additive lab can match. The microArch S350 has become an important tool for printing high-resolution connectors with its high part quality and production-ready throughput, as well as the wider variety of print materials," said Xiaoming Luo, Principal 3D Printing Engineer, Aerospace, Defense, and Marine (AD&M) at TE Connectivity. "We believe that the microArch S350 will enable TE Connectivity to produce very high-resolution connectors for our customers."
