Survey
Solving the energy problems of the future
In an international survey on the economy, energy and climate protection, four fifths of participants see sustainability as an important economic factor. At the same time, three quarters of respondents believe that technological progress makes the world a better place.
People are concerned about how humanity can meet the demand for sustainable and affordable energy. This is shown by the Bosch Tech Compass 2023, a representative survey conducted in seven countries worldwide.
With regard to the economic potential of sustainable solutions and products, the respondents are unanimous: 82% believe that the more a company relies on sustainable technologies, the greater its economic success will be in the future. This conviction is strongest in Brazil and India (87% each) and comparatively lowest in the USA (73%).
According to the survey, there is still room for improvement in terms of business commitment to climate protection: 58% of respondents believe that only a minority of companies are currently seriously addressing the issue of sustainability. "The biggest challenge of our time is combating climate change. People therefore rightly expect companies to provide technical solutions to these issues. Bosch is rising to this challenge and consistently focusing on future technologies such as hydrogen electrolysis," says Dr. Stefan Hartung, Chairman of the Bosch Board of Management.
Renewables yes - but with restrictions
In many parts of the world, there is a trend reversal towards renewable energies, but people around the world do not yet want to completely write off nuclear power and fossil fuels. Overall, 62% of respondents would like to see the promotion of solar power, while 44% are in favor of promoting wind power technologies. In China and France, the call for the promotion of nuclear power technology is still comparatively loud, while the US and India continue to rely more clearly than others on oil and gas technologies. In Germany, on the other hand, the desire for nuclear power and fossil fuels is weak - many Germans are turning away from fossil fuels and would like to see the expansion of solar and wind energy as well as hydrogen.

Sustainability from personal experience - an interview with Sven Hamann
Sustainability, employee qualification and return on investment: Industry 4.0 has many facets. On the fringes of Hannover Messe 2022, Sven Hamann, Managing Director of Bosch Connected Industry, took the time to talk to editor-in-chief Daniel Schilling about current trends in a rapidly changing environment.
Trust in technology is growing
The Tech Compass shows: In a world characterized by uncertainty, trust in technology has increased compared to the previous year. Worldwide, 75% of people surveyed now believe that technological progress can make the world a better place (2022: 72%). 83% of respondents also see technology as the key to combating climate change (2022: 76%). "Digitalization can make an important contribution to sustainability," says Hartung. "We are investing in the development and expansion of promising new technologies with a focus on sustainability, mobility and Industry 4.0."
