Cable handling application at Motek 2023
Robot recognizes the exact pick-up point
At this year's Motek in Hall 7, Stand 7103, Artiminds Robotics will be showcasing a robot-based automation solution for the sensor-assisted assembly of flexible cables in connector housings.
The highlight of the trade fair presentation is a pioneering cable handling application for wire harness assembly. The robot-assisted solution demonstrates the robust detection, gripping and joining of free-hanging, flexible parts such as wires and cables. The approach developed by Artiminds for this complex 2.5D application is based on a unique combination of laser line scanners, 2D camera technology and force-torque measurement as well as newly developed interfaces and intelligent function blocks in the Robot Programming Suite (RPS). The software processes the scan result in real time and synchronizes it with the robot movement to determine the exact pick-up point. It then performs a force-controlled joining operation that enables the cables to be inserted precisely and securely into the connector housing.
Centerpiece: Artiminds-RPS programming software
The demonstration illustrates the versatile application possibilities of the manufacturer-independent programming software Artiminds-RPS, which enables the simple creation of highly adaptive and sophisticated robot programs. As the software generates native robot code, the programs can be executed directly on the standard controller of the industrial robot used, without additional hardware.
