Rockwell expands light grid system

The proliferation of robots has led to an increased demand for light curtains that provide a safe working environment between fully automated robot cells and the rest of the plant. The Allen-Bradley Guardshield 450L safety light curtain system from Rockwell Automation is a flexible, cost-effective solution that also increases productivity using transceiver technology.

"Users will experience significant benefits throughout the lifecycle of the new light curtain system, especially during installation and operation," promises Manfred Stein, Global Product Manager for safety light curtains at Rockwell Automation. The Integrated Laser Alignment System (ILAS) of the new Guardshield-450L-E series reduces installation time by providing multiple visible laser points. The light curtain can be optimally aligned by simply touching the ILAS symbol on the front panel.

In addition, the Guardshield-450L-E system can be easily integrated into hand and finger protection applications thanks to its compact design and full-length protective field, whereby protective field lengths in multiples of 150 to 1,950 millimetres are possible. To increase flexibility, extended functions and performance features can be used during commissioning, such as cascading, integrated muting and blanking, while maintaining the highest level of safety.

The muting and blanking functions can be easily set via DIP switches on the respective plug-in modules. Common muting settings, for example four or two sensors with L and T configuration and bridging function, can be selected as well as reduced resolution or teach-in blanking (fixed). A cascading plug-in for series connection of several safety light grid systems can also be installed for multi-sided protection. as
