Kyndryl, a provider of IT infrastructure services, has unveiled enhancements to its managed security service offering that enable customers to harden their security operations against cyber-attacks and strengthen their resilience. Kyndryl's new modular security operations-as-a-platform approach is a centralized and unified management system. It enables customers to maintain their existing investments in security technologies and services while customizing their operations with complementary services.

With the new end-to-end security operations services, Kyndryl wants to expand its two billion US dollar Security & Resiliency division. The global market for managed security services is forecast to reach 47 billion US dollars by 2025.

According to IDC, many security operations centers continue to rely on a one-size-fits-all approach. However, too many of them are struggling with tools that are neither properly configured and monitored nor connected to the systems that differentiate real threats from false positives. Even if companies reduce the number of tools they use and connect systems accordingly, there is a risk that the shortage of skilled staff will put a spanner in the works.

"CISOs and CIOs will welcome the flexible approach Kyndryl is taking with its growing security operations services portfolio. Chief Compliance Officers (CCO), on the other hand, will benefit from Kyndryl's growing global footprint, which is especially useful in the context of increasing data privacy regulations," said Craig Robinson, Research Vice President at IDC. "Our industry-leading portfolio of Kyndryl security services is built on a high degree of flexibility and is therefore designed to meet the current needs of cyber security teams," said Kris Lovejoy, Global Security and Resiliency Leader at Kyndryl. "Traditional security operations centers are often limited in their ability to adapt and respond. Our Security Operations-as-a-Platform offering centralizes existing security investments, leverages hybrid teams and continuously adapts to the dynamic threat landscape."

The extensions in detail

Security services: Kyndryl's service portfolio includes comprehensive consulting, implementation support and managed services that focus on the core areas of modern security operations. These include Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Vulnerability Management. Conventional security offerings often lack versatility. In addition, customers are often unable to take advantage of services that are tailored to their individual needs. Kyndryl customers, on the other hand, can select and use new functions, even if their (business) requirements change.

Security Operations Center: Kyndryl has established Security Operations Centers in Italy, Spain, Hungary and Canada, with additional locations to follow in Japan and India by the end of the year. This global network of centers offers expert support in defending against and protecting against cyber threats. The hybrid model designed by Kyndryl combines the expertise of the company's own security teams with the know-how of Kyndryl experts. Alternatively, customers can hand over the end-to-end management of security operations to Kyndryl.

Security Operations as a Platform: The security functions of Kyndryl's centralized Security Operations as a Service platform are based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This makes it possible to quickly identify acute threats and respond with automated countermeasures. The platform also has a single marketplace, an operations management console and an AI/ML analytics engine. All platform functions will be integrated into the Kyndryl Bridge open integration platform by the end of the current financial year in March 2024. This step is intended to provide even greater transparency in the IT structures of customers managed by Kyndryl, which will benefit the security situation.

Cyber resilience: Kyndryl's integrated services and platform leverage its global ecosystem of strategic partnerships and alliances, including leading cloud hyperscalers and numerous security and resilience partners. According to IDC, existing customers could realize a five-year return on investment (ROI) of 568 percent with Kyndryl's security and resiliency portfolio, which now includes all new security operations and response capabilities.
