"Tougher sanctions unavoidable after atrocities"

VDMA President Karl Haeusgen comments on the EU's new sanctions against Russia, which are to include technology exports and Russian coal imports:

"The EU will respond to the continuation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the latest atrocities committed by the Russian army with tougher sanctions. It is right that Europe is united in increasing the pressure on the Putin regime to force the Russian leader to end this war. Although the export bans on technology will have a direct impact on mechanical engineering and the coal embargo will have an indirect impact on our industry, the VDMA supports the new measures as well as the sanctions previously adopted by the EU. The population and industry must assume that there may be further escalations and therefore further sanctions."
