Man in the middle

It feels like winter is now over and the trade fair season has long since begun. In this issue of SCOPE, we are paying special attention to Control, which takes place in Stuttgart from April 24 to 27. Quality is one of the decisive criteria for asserting oneself in the industry - especially in global competition. Quality assurance and quality control therefore play a role in all areas of production and manufacturing, but also in organization and management.

So, technically at least, everything is connected to everything else - from measurement technology and analysis to quality management software. And quality prevails. Nevertheless, everything should always be better, more functional and, if possible, cheaper. Reducing costs, increasing quality and yield - the famous efficiency. But is that possible, ever greater efficiency?
Will people fall by the wayside in the end? Or do they increasingly benefit from the changes around them? I don't think there is a clear answer to this question, but one that everyone can only answer for themselves. Nevertheless, we should take care of the most important quality of all - the quality of life. Industry is also committed to this, and to some extent it has understood this and is concerned about the well-being of its employees as well as the preservation of our environment - even or especially in the fourth industrial age. Others, on the other hand, have to be forced into our happiness, as a few more euros earned per product are all too tempting and penalties are obviously hardly in sight.

Only a motivated employee is a good employee - and therefore stands for identification with the company and the quality of its products. And motivation, in turn, is based on one's own success and the appreciation of others. It is the person who produces, and it is the same person who consumes. The person in the middle is the focus of quality and should benefit from it.

Our high-quality products ensure our competitiveness, our prosperity and, to a large extent, our quality of life. That is certainly true. But there is more to giving our lives quality. The joy of it. Enjoying what we do every day, the feeling of being needed and respected, of being an important part of what we are working on. Success and well-being don't have to be mutually exclusive - they shouldn't be.

So despite all the necessary control of the production of our products and the desire to control the controllers, we should not forget one thing: to give up control now and again and simply enjoy the quality of life. I wish you a sunny spring! am
