Solid paste polishing

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Automatic solid paste feed successfully in use

The MELT (Menzerna Liquefaction Technology) solid paste application process for automatic polishing systems, developed by Menzerna in collaboration with SM Klebetechnik, combines the advantages of emulsions and solid pastes. Solid polishing paste is stored in a 200-liter drum, melted on the surface and pumped via heated lines to a dosing head on the polishing ring. The first pilot system was successfully put into operation at fittings and shower manufacturer Hansgrohe. The processing time per part was immediately reduced considerably.

Hansgrohe previously relied exclusively on polishing emulsion for the automated polishing of its brass fittings. Until now, it was not possible to use solid paste economically in the automated process. Compared to emulsions, solid pastes guarantee a higher surface quality, can be stored for longer and processing and cleaning times are considerably shorter.
