REACH safety for hexavalent chromium

Prohibition with reservation of permission

Rieger Metallveredlung fulfills the requirements of the Federal Environment Agency and is therefore permitted to process hexavalent chromium. As a downstream user, Rieger must provide its upstream manufacturers with information on the entire use so that they in turn can take the use into account in their exposure data in the technical dossier and recommend suitable risk reduction measures. The use then becomes an "identified use".

Rieger then has a duty to apply the risk reduction measures precisely. Only a few particularly qualified electroplating companies can still offer these services today. The reason: according to the Federal Environment Agency, hexavalent chromium has particularly worrying properties for humans and the environment and is therefore subject to a "ban with reservation of permission". This means that this chemical can only be used under special conditions. sw
