Polishing the flute to a high gloss

According to the manufacturer, Otec machines improve the quality of carbide tools. A special process makes it possible to polish the flute of carbide milling cutters and drills, for example, to a high gloss.

As the chips are removed from the flute more quickly, the chips heat up less. These positive effects of the smooth surface mean that higher cutting speeds and significantly longer tool life can be achieved. The smooth surface also reduces the risk of welding with the material to be machined. The polish enables higher cutting values and feed rates to be achieved. In order to increase the quality of cutting tools, they are often coated with so-called hard coatings. These are applied using either the PVD or CVD process. These coatings are said to have a positive effect on the service life of the tools and contribute to higher cutting speeds. The quality of the coating depends largely on the surface finish, the deburring condition and the sharpness of the cutting edge. The manufacturer offers precision technology for producing perfect surfaces.
