For more efficiency when melting down

The handling of scrap products and by-products in the foundry and machining industries is becoming increasingly important for the efficient utilization of raw materials in the production process. The aim is to return the metal to the production process as quickly as possible. However, before the castings and metal chips can be melted down, they must first be shredded.

In aluminum foundries in particular, large quantities of punching waste, sprue systems or faulty castings are generated during daily production, which are collected, recycled and remelted on site. Particularly in view of rising raw material prices, it is in the interest of companies to return scrap material to the production process as quickly and efficiently as possible. As many parts are bulky and unwieldy, they have to be shredded before being remelted.

The machine for the rough stuff

With the RM1350/2 coarse shredder, Erdwich Zerkleinerungs-Systeme offers a machine specifically for this task. The length of the cutting unit varies from 1,500 to 2,500 mm depending on the application. The width is 1,350 mm, but can also be adapted to suit the user. The blades of the cutting unit are made of low-wear special steel and are individually inserted, so that different insertion sequences are possible depending on the material to be shredded. The tools are easily accessible and can be replaced individually if necessary or welded on and reconditioned directly when installed.

Depending on the application, different drive powers from 45 to 132 kW are available. The two motors of the Erdwich twin-shaft rotor ripper system are each equipped with an energy-efficient frequency converter so that the shafts can be controlled independently of each other. In addition to the electromechanical high-performance gearboxes, the throughput capacity is increased by the ability to move the shafts alternately forwards and backwards. The specially developed PLC control with automatic reversing and switch-off protects the machine from damage caused by overloading or bulky solid parts that have become jammed. With the RM1350/2, for example, the volume of cast parts can be reduced by 50 to 60 percent.

The company is presenting the M600/1 for shredding smaller castings and metal chips. The single-shaft shredder is particularly suitable for precise material disintegration in a single work step, as the material is captured by the cutting rotor using the proven rotor-stator cutting principle and shredded on the stator blade until it has reached the desired size. This can be precisely defined by the perforated screen installed underneath, through which the shredded material is discharged. The M600/1 also has a long service life thanks to the fully hardened blades, which can be reground several times.

The single-shaft shredder is available in two cutting unit sizes of 400 mm × 500 mm or 600 mm × 500 mm (L×W) and with a drive power of between 5.5 and 9.2 kW. There are also other models with different shaft lengths.
