MiR is headquartered in Odense, Denmark, where the company was founded in 2013. MiR develops and distributes autonomous, collaborative mobile robots for in-plant transportation in the industrial and healthcare sectors. The pioneer in mobile robotics has quickly established a global distribution network with dealers in more than 40 countries and regional offices in San Diego, Singapore, Dortmund, Barcelona, Shanghai and New York. Since its foundation, MiR has experienced steep growth, increasing by 500% from 2015 to 2016 alone and by 300% from 2016 to 2017. In 2017, MiR achieved an annual turnover of twelve million dollars, tripling its turnover compared to the previous year. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, MiR's turnover amounted to five million dollars.

Collaborative, mobile robotics is a segment worth around 1.1 billion dollars within the industrial service robotics logistics systems market and is expected to grow strongly in the coming years.

In 2015, Teradyne already acquired the Danish robot manufacturer Universal Robots for 285 million dollars. "We are excited to add Mobile Industrial Robots to Teradyne's growing portfolio of advanced and intelligent automation products," said Mark Jagiela, President and CEO of Teradyne. "Similar to Universal Robots' collaborative robots, MiR's collaborative mobile robots lower the barrier for companies large and small to progressively automate their workflows. Building on the successful path we have taken with Universal Robots, we expect to leverage Teradyne's global capabilities to expand MiR's reach."

"My main goal is to market our mobile robots internationally," says Niels Jul Jacobsen, CSO and founder of MiR. "With Teradyne as our owner, we will have strong backing to ensure MiR's continued growth in the global market." as
