Crane technology for large appliances
Four wire rope hoists for the 30,000-kilo drum
Machinex, a manufacturer of material recovery systems headquartered in Québec, Canada, has the Mach drum in its product range - a key component of modern recycling plants. Crane technology from Stahl Cranesystems makes it possible to lift the large equipment stably and safely.
Canada will ban single-use plastic products from 2021, making it a pioneer in the fight against plastic waste. The Canadians also score highly when it comes to recycling: in the early 1980s, Machinex was the first Canadian company to manufacture equipment for waste disposal centers. The company quickly conquered the global market with its high-quality systems. Today, Machinex operates internationally in the field of sorting and waste management and develops recycling technologies such as optical scanners and sorting robots.
At the beginning of 2019, a new plant including new crane technology from Künzelsau was built at the company's headquarters in Plessisville. The oversized Mach trommel, a screening plant that weighs up to 30,000 kilograms, has a diameter of up to three meters and a length of up to 15.3 meters, is produced here. Safe and robust crane technology with high lifting capacities is essential to move the drums, which weigh several tons, because lifting and moving the huge recycling components is a challenge.
Two SH 50 wire rope hoists from Stahl are installed on each of two single-girder bridge cranes, each with a span of almost 16 meters and a load capacity of 20,000 kilograms, making work easier for the Canadian company. The total of four hoists, each with a load capacity of 10,000 kilograms, can be operated by the customer individually or in tandem. A special feature of tandem cranes like this one is the control system: It must have special circuits that ensure the cranes run in sync and guarantee the safety of the entire system in the event of a component malfunction. The crane system is conveniently operated by radio: both cranes can be connected for tandem operation via the master switch, and the four steel wire rope hoists can also be linked. Thanks to this configuration and the smooth starting behavior of the SH 50 wire rope hoists, it is possible to lift and move even oversized equipment such as the Mach HD drum safely and without any problems.
The Mach trommel functions as a screening plant, it enables the processing of different material streams in a single system and, positioned in a recycling plant, provides excellent preparation for subsequent sorting. The effective internal diameter of the trommels and the opening size of the screen plates vary according to customer requirements and applications - the weight of the individual trommels also varies. For lower loads, up to a weight of 5,000 kilograms, four ST 32 chain hoists, which are also installed on two single-girder overhead cranes, are used. This means that several work processes can take place simultaneously in the large hall without interfering with each other. The other crane technology also comes from Stahl: the LT 25 and LT 11 overhead traveling crane girders and the SD B4 and SD B3 travel drives have been installed in Plessisville, Canada, for almost a year. as
