Forklift truck service can improve the environmental footprint

The size of the ecological footprint of a warehouse or material flow in a company depends on various factors, including the choice of service partner. The industrial truck manufacturer Unicarriers explains how theCO2 balance can be improved at this point.

To improve theircarbon footprint, companies that use forklifts in their logistics operations should take a close look when choosing a service partner. This is because a high First Visit Fix Rate (FVFR) makes a decisive contribution to environmentally friendly logistics operations. The FVFR describes the rate of service visits in which the service technician solves the problem on the vehicle on the first visit - without having to order the required parts or procure them from a warehouse and come back again.

Why is this rate so important? Quite simply, a service partner with a higher FVFR requires fewer trips from their location to the company to repair the forklift. A lower FVFR means that more trips are required. With a large fleet that requires regular maintenance, these extra trips add up and can be costly in terms of time andCO2 emissions.

But how can a high FVFR be achieved? Of course, personnel play a role here, as well-trained and motivated service staff help to solve problems quickly. However, the design principle of the vehicles is of much more fundamental importance. The industrial truck developer Unicarriers relies on a modular design for its models - and thus achieves an FVFR of 95 percent. From low lift pallet trucks to order pickers and counterbalance trucks - the range of vehicles covers all work steps in a modern warehouse. At the same time, all models are based on the same modules and components, which can always be combined in different ways.

This means that the service provider has to carry fewer different components on his service trips, requires less space and therefore a smaller vehicle with lower fuel consumption - and is more likely to already have the right spare part with him.

Companies are therefore already laying the foundations for environmentally friendly logistics with the basic design of their forklift fleet. By choosing a service provider with a better FVFR, thecarbon footprint of the service process can be reduced by almost ten percent. This can be a decisive argument for companies that are concerned about the environment or have to comply with a company-wide environmental policy. as
