Expresso shows travel drive for handling and conveying system

Expresso, the specialist for transporting, lifting and handling, is pushing ahead with the further development of its mobile handling and transport system lift2move. While the company only unveiled the hybrid AGV version of its multifunctional industrial truck a few weeks ago, it is now presenting the new "impulse" drive module for its universally applicable intralogistics solution.

At LogiMAT 2018, Expresso will be presenting the new "impulse" drive module for all single-mast lift2move models with swivel castor chassis. It is located directly under the lift mast and is spring-mounted, guaranteeing safe and stable driving of the loaded lift2move even on uneven floors and in bends.

The presented drive unit also serves as an approach and climbing aid, which should increase the mobility of the handling system and significantly reduce the strain on the user. At LogiMAT in Stuttgart, the Kassel-based company will be demonstrating how easy and intuitive it is to operate the motorized lift2move impulse.

The lift2move is part of a new generation of highly functional industrial trucks that can be flexibly adapted to different intralogistics requirements thanks to their modular design. Depending on the model, payloads of up to 400 kilograms can be moved by driving under pallets or with the help of product-specific manipulators. The lift2move performs all handling tasks (lifting, gripping, tilting, etc.) via the kinematic interaction of its electrically operated lift mast with electrical or mechanical load supports, while it acts as a hand-guided feed system for all pick-up and delivery services. Thanks to the low-lying chassis, high-quality smooth-running castors and adjustable push handle, these manual transport journeys do not require a great deal of physical effort from the operator. Nevertheless, the ergonomics experts at Expresso could not let go of the idea of motorizing their handling and transport system. This is how the Kassel-based company's development department came up with the powerful "impulse" drive, which is available for all lift2move models with swivel castor chassis for payloads of up to 225 kilograms - and which is also available as a retrofit kit.

Greater mobility and ergonomics: the new "impulse" drive module for the lift2move handling and transport system not only serves as a travel drive, but also as a starting aid and support when climbing.

Expresso will be presenting the new drive module to trade visitors for the first time at the upcoming LogiMAT. At the trade fair stand in Hall 7 (Stand C71), logistics specialists from all sectors will be able to experience live how the new drive module is integrated into the lift2move chassis and how easy it is to operate. At its heart is a powerful 250-watt electric motor, which the user first activates using a safety button. After this activation, the user can then use a small thumb controller on the handlebar grip to continuously adjust the power to the level required. This allows him to adjust the speed to his walking speed, the transported goods or the condition of the floor. In addition, a direction switch makes it easy to switch between forward and reverse travel. From an ergonomic point of view, the support that the new electric drive offers when starting off and when climbing - for example when driving up ramps - is particularly important: When pushing off, the lift2move's breakaway torque is reduced to almost zero and when climbing inclines, the travel drive provides full support - both of which mean enormous relief for the user's spine and muscles. Especially when transporting massive workpieces, bulging storage boxes or heavy sheet metal coils over long distances, the assisted effect of the new travel drive proves to be a contribution to greater ergonomics, safety and efficiency in intralogistics.

Ex works or for retrofitting

Intuitive and simple: after activation via a safety button in the left handle, the operator of the lift2move can control the new electric drive continuously via a small thumb throttle on the right handle.

The new drive unit has already been integrated into the company's product range, meaning that all lift2move models with swivel castor chassis can now be equipped with it ex works. Lifts that are already in operation can be motorized with the retrofit kit in just a few minutes. The drive module is mounted directly under the lift mast of the lift and is spring-mounted so that it guarantees safe and stable movement of the loaded lift2move even on uneven floors and in bends. The electric drive is powered by the conventional Powerpack or the lightweight lithium-ion Flyweight Powerpack L.ION of the industrial truck (service life up to 24 hours). The additional interface on the impulse control box can also be used to operate other electric front-mounted devices, such as manipulators for turning, tilting, turning, gripping and many other actions.

Alternative for many processes

At LogiMAT in Stuttgart, Expresso will also be presenting its lift2move as a driverless transport system. This is a hybrid system that can also run outside the inductive track guidance system. (Pictures: EXPRESSO)

With the lift2move and its modular - or customer-specific - expansion options, Expresso offers a modern industrial truck for intralogistics. The growing system solution can be adapted to new requirements time and again and also proves to be a flexible alternative to traditional materials handling equipment such as forklift trucks or hand pallet trucks. kp
