Energy chain guide trough

7 m/s in the vertical plane

In highly dynamic applications, speeds of 7 m/s are no longer a rarity for modern lifts and hoists. Igus has developed the "guidelite vertical" system, or GLV for short, to ensure that vertically moving energy chains are held securely in place.

Guide troughs for energy chains are widely used in industry, especially for long travel distances where the upper run of the energy chain slides on the lower run. In vertical applications, on the other hand - for example in material flow - guide troughs are not absolutely necessary as long as the dynamics are low. Here, the energy chain simply follows the force of gravity. However, this rarely applies to modern systems. At speeds of over 7 m/s, energy chains must ensure safety in order to prevent accidents. Up to now, almost closed guide channels made of sheet metal have been used as guide channels. However, these continuous enclosures are heavy, complex to install and the closed design amplifies the discharge noise of the energy chain.

The open GLV takes on precisely these challenges, according to Igus: The new GLV guide trough for purely vertical applications is based on the guidelok series. Open guide rails made of plastic with a system length of 2,000 millimetres are used to guide the energy chain. This open design minimizes the resonance chamber and helps to keep the energy chain's run-off noise to a minimum. Further advantages are the successful absorption of vibrations and easy installation. The rails can be screwed together with just one hand. If cables or the energy chain are damaged, the open design of the guide trough allows quick detection and easy access to the damaged area. The use of plastic rails also reduces the overall weight of the channel.
