Biofolding box
Reusable logistics to become sustainable
Walther Faltsysteme wants to set new standards for sustainability in reusable logistics and is introducing a plastic folding box that is made from 93% renewable raw materials. With this pilot project, Walther is further developing its Greenline product range, which is made entirely from renewable plastic.
The latest product in the Greenline range is manufactured by Walter using injection molding; it will be available in all colors. The background to the further development of regenerative plastic from renewable raw materials is the increasing demand in all industries for lean and environmentally friendly reusable transport packaging. "With around 17 million tons of packaging waste every year, producers, suppliers and retailers are looking for an efficient solution. The product development of a folding box made from renewable raw materials brings us one step closer to the goal of a low-pollution circular economy," emphasizes Thomas Walther, Managing Director of Walther Faltsysteme.
Multiple product life cycles
Sustainability is the keyword of the development concept. When handled properly, the containers are expected to have a comparatively long service life of around 100 cycles. After the recycling process, the regenerative material can be used for around two to three further product life cycles. The folding boxes are available in three different standard sizes: 600 x 400 x 320 millimetres, 600 x 400 x 220 millimetres and 400 x 300 x 220 millimetres. More than 500,000 transport containers made from Walther's regenerative material are already in circulation.
Save 75 percent volume
The folding box will initially be available with external dimensions of 600 x 400 x 220 millimetres. Future areas of application for the container include highly automated intralogistics, supplier transportation and store use. The integrated RFID technology ensures reliable processes. When folded, 75 percent of the volume is saved. 40 years ago, the specialist for reusable transport packaging of all sizes introduced the first plastic folding box available on the German market. Companies such as Edeka, Continental and Vaillant are among its customers. pb
