Beumer sorts for Santa Claus

This year, Beumer is once again supporting the top gift deliverer - Santa Claus: In Wernberg in Carinthia, for example, Austrian Post operates a distribution center that can process up to 50,000 parcels at peak times, 6,000 parcels per hour. At its heart is a sorting system from Beumer.

Old, good-natured, with a long beard and red coat - that's how we know Santa Claus. Year after year, he patiently answers letters from children all over the world and brings them the perfect present at just the right time. Santa Claus? In Carinthia, Austrian Post is responsible for this - and it is at least as reliable.

This is made possible by the logistics heroes from Beumer. The system provider has installed the BG Sorter in the new postal distribution center in Wernberg. This powerful, energy-efficient system not only creates a pleasant working atmosphere in the hall with its quiet operation - it also helps the logistics and postal company to deliver up to 30,000 parcels every day, and even up to 50,000 in the run-up to Christmas.

In Germany, the booming e-commerce sector ensured that books, toys and cosmetics worth 13.2 billion euros found their new owners online in 2018 - that's around 13% of all Christmas gifts. And everything arrived on time for Christmas Eve, including quick orders and immediate deliveries. Around 330 million parcels were delivered across Germany during the 2018 Christmas period, according to the German Parcel and Express Logistics Association. At peak times, this sometimes amounted to 18 million parcels a day.

"We can handle the largest possible product mix precisely and cost-effectively with our sorter," says Kathrin Fischer, Branch Manager in Wernberg. "The Beumer sorter distributes the different parcel consignments gently, quickly and accurately."

The system is also climate-friendly, thanks to energy-efficient drives in the sorter. Servo-based, they reduce the power requirement andCO2 emissions. With this highly efficient, friction-locked solution, the contact pressure of the drive wheel is automatically adjusted depending on the required drive force - even when braking. This increases efficiency by up to 90 percent and extends the service life of the drive wheels.

More than three million employees in the logistics sector in Germany alone not only support Santa Claus, but also ensure the global flow of goods throughout the year. At Beumer, the 4,500 employees in Germany, Austria and many other countries are once again ensuring that all wishes come true in time for the festive season. as
