Lift for vertical transportation
Barrier-free access to the home with a lift
Barrier-free living and working: Where stairs or landings make access difficult, alternatives to lengthy and costly conversion measures are required. With its lift, Bahr has developed a precisely adaptable, easy-to-install solution for the vertical transportation of people and loads.
As a leading manufacturer of modular positioning systems for industrial applications, Bahr also applies the high industrial standards of mechanical engineering to special designs for the private sector. One example of this is the new lift developed by the positioning expert in cooperation with a renowned drive specialist.
"With projects like this, we are demonstrating how versatile our positioning technology can be for tasks that go beyond typical industrial applications," explains Dirk Bahr, Head of Design at Bahr. "The modular design of our axis profiles offers extensive equipment and machining options. This allows us to design the entire mechanical system structure very efficiently and flexibly with a wide variety of kinematics, for example for 3D printing technology, pick-and-place applications or gantry systems. This is also appreciated by project developers from the electronics and control technology sectors, with whom we work together to implement new solutions for special and series production."
Adaptable to different heights
Dirk Bahr got the impetus for the lift system from his circle of friends. A staircase in the entrance area prevented the wheelchair-dependent son of the family friend from getting into the house independently. To overcome this barrier, Dirk Bahr decided to design an economical and easy-to-install lifting construction based on his GGT/K 90 positioning axes specified for lifting applications. The lift system with a standard lifting range of 1,200 millimetres can be adapted for variable heights as required. It is designed for loads of up to 400 kilograms and is equally suitable for transporting people and goods.
The machine manufacturer was able to gain a well-known drive specialist as a partner for the drive and control technology. The company, which specializes in building automation technology and the automation of roller shutters, awnings, garage doors and roller doors, designed a modified frequency-controlled drive unit based on its industrial door drives. The frequency inverter enables smooth, jerk-free starting and stopping of the motor, ensures convenient and safe operation of the lift and at the same time protects the mechanics. The lift can be controlled either via the control station mounted on one of the lifting axles or by remote control.
Protection of persons
The lift system can also be configured so that it is only ready for use when the guardrail is closed. As a further mechanical safety feature, Bahr has integrated a robust worm gear that reliably prevents the platform from dropping unintentionally. A purely mechanical spring joint ensures that the ramp for level access folds up automatically when the transport platform is raised. To protect people and goods, the ramp is mechanically secured against unintentional folding back.
For positioning, Bahr has installed its GG 90 series axles, which are specially designed for lifting applications. The two lift axes are driven by a toothed belt located in the square tube to ensure forced parallel running at all times. Because these applications do not require high dynamics, but instead focus on durability, reliability and safety, large plastic sliding bushes are integrated into the guide carriages, which slide on internal grooves in the axle body. Due to the very low friction of the plastic surfaces on the anodized profile grooves, the sliding guide is subject to only minimal wear.
The guide body consists of an aluminum square profile with an edge length of 90 millimeters, in which the guide carriage is optionally driven by a trapezoidal or ball screw spindle together with an associated guide nut with a repeat accuracy of plus/minus 0.2 millimeters or plus/minus 0.025 millimeters. The opening of the guide body is closed by a polyurethane cover strip with steel mesh. High-quality ball bearings on the carriage prevent material abrasion of the PU tape.
Bus-capable networking
With its lift system, Bahr offers an economical, flexibly adaptable solution for various indoor and outdoor lifting tasks, which is available from stock in the standard version. All metal components, from the positioning axles to the lifting platform and guardrails, are made of corrosion-resistant materials - stainless steel or aluminum - and are durable. Thanks to its compact, easy-to-install design, the lift system can be installed directly at the place of use without any modifications and can also be dismantled again when no longer required. Thanks to its needs-based dimensioning with freely selectable lifting ranges of up to 1,200 millimetres, it is ideal for transporting loads as well as for barrier-free entrance design in buildings and homes. The modern control system also supports bus connections and the implementation of additional safety features such as networking with the house lighting. as
