Ergonomic at heart

Height-adjustable workstation systems. The spindle motor forms the heart of the electromechanical height adjustment systems Movotec SMS and ELS3 Heavyduty from Suspa. The drive transforms static work surfaces into ergonomic workstation systems.

The Movotec SMS and ELS3 HeavyDuty electric height adjustment systems are based on one and the same drive concept. A spindle motor operates in these adjustment systems. It forms the "ergonomic heart" of both systems. The electromechanical drive consists of an electric motor and a gearbox. Its central task is to enable the vertical extension and retraction of work surfaces together with the spindle, thereby preventing physiological damage - especially to the back. The spindle motor in Suspa's ergonomic lifting and lowering systems is used for a wide range of different application concepts.

Ergonomics for retrofitting
Movotec SMS is particularly variable: it is available in stroke lengths of 150, 200, 300 and 400 millimetres and can also be retrofitted to various industrial applications. This means that existing, non-ergonomic work tables can be retrofitted with Movotec SMS using the bolt-on profile.

The system is "plug & play" capable and simplifies installation. In contrast to the hydraulic system, there is also no need to lay and fix the oil lines.

As "ergonomics for retrofitting", Movotec SMS relieves people by adjusting the height of workstations and workplaces with higher loads and is therefore suitable for the "ergonomization" of an existing, static working environment. Each SMS actuator can move loads of up to 150 kilograms. An eight-leg table is therefore able to move loads of up to 1,200 kilograms. The height adjustment therefore delivers a maximum compressive force of 1,500 newtons and can also achieve tensile forces of 750 newtons per lifting element thanks to the spindle motor. The system can move up to eight legs synchronized to move large loads (maximum 12,000 newtons). At maximum load, the travel speed is eight millimetres per second. The speed can be doubled if required. In this case, the load capacity is halved to a maximum of 75 kilograms per actuator.

The Movotec SMS-I-40x80 and SMS-B-45x90 lifting elements, on the other hand, are suitable for workstation systems made up of modular profiles. Accordingly, the SMS-based actuators are integrated into ready-to-install aluminum profiles. This means that the SMS actuators can be installed as height-adjustable lifting legs and connected to standard mounting profile systems as a modular system. The profile is supplied with the Movotec SMS lifting system already integrated. Thanks to the standard dimensions of 45 x 90 millimetres or 40 x 80 millimetres, they are compatible with many commercially available mounting profiles.

Lifting and lowering on assembly tables and workbenches
The SMS-based ELS3 Heavyduty is specially designed for assembly tables and workbenches. The system lifts and lowers loads of up to 100 kilograms per lifting column at the workstation, which are moved over a stroke of 500 millimetres at 20 millimetres per second. The ELS3 Heavyduty is also fully integrated. The spindle motor is installed horizontally to the lifting column and is therefore transverse to the direction of travel, as the motor housing, which is adapted to the installation, serves as a support surface for the table top. The heavy-duty lifting columns can be used for two-leg, three-leg or four-leg tables. With a four-leg table, this results in a maximum load capacity of 400 kilograms, which can be moved using various hand control models.

Improved eye-hand coordination
Designers like to install ELS3-Heavyduty lifting columns in ergonomic assembly and work tables because the electric height adjustment creates a standing and sitting workstation in one solution. The lifting columns are also suitable for delicate work that requires a high degree of precision. To do this, the table must be extended as far as possible so that the workpiece can be positioned close to the eye. The ergonomic effect: improved eye-hand coordination, which is required in the watchmaking industry, in dental or goldsmith technology, in prototyping and at manual assembly workstations in production.

Movotec SMS, on the other hand, is primarily used in the industrial sector. Plant manufacturers use the system in production facilities or conveyor belts, for example, where it has to raise and lower the work surface into physiologically favourable positions so that staff can create an ergonomic working environment that is appropriate for their physical constitution and also optimize the individual gripping geometry.

This solution is also in high demand from manufacturers of workstation systems who value ergonomics and want to equip their products - workbenches and work tables - with an electric height adjustment function. For this reason, Movotec SMS is suitable for the manual assembly of complex products that have a high dead weight. Electric height adjustment with Movotec SMS allows the height of the work area to be ergonomically adjusted to the individual's height at the touch of a button.

Rapid dismantling and assembly for flexible processes
SMS mounting profiles, on the other hand, are suitable for modular workstation systems. Standard sizes and a modular design ensure maximum compatibility with standard profile systems and rapid installation. Workstation system manufacturers appreciate these performance features because this system is recommended for extremely flexible processes that have to adapt to changing production requirements at short notice. Under these conditions, rapid dismantling and assembly is crucial, without having to compromise on the powerful performance of the Movotec SMS. The ergonomic effect of the spindle motor lies in the electrical adjustment of the working height. In the various height adjustment systems, it prevents physiologically unfavorable postures depending on the area of use and application and prevents musculoskeletal damage that occurs when using static work surfaces. Production downtime, incapacity to work and the high costs of restoring an undisturbed production process can be avoided by using a height adjustment system based on a spindle motor. as
