Weiss at the SPS IPC Drives

Round, linear or system automation

The automation specialist Weiss will be presenting products from the areas of rotary tables, transfer systems, handling, industrial systems and software in Nuremberg.

With the XY-Portal LP, Weiss presents an intelligent functional unit consisting of mechanics, electronics and software. The components of the variable industrial solution are essentially the linear motor axes HN and HL, a customized controller and software as well as various fieldbus interfaces including OPC UA for communication. All components are coordinated in such a way that only the strokes, the payload and the desired interfaces need to be specified by the customer in order to deliver the configured system ready for operation.

"This reduces the customer's engineering time enormously. They basically only have to plug it in and can start programming their routes directly in our W.A.S. software," says Fabian Hübner, Head of Product Management at Weiss.

The W.A.S. application software is part of the Control Package and is based on an intuitive operating concept with an interface that is available both as a Windows program and as a web interface. According to the company, initial commissioning is possible without specialist knowledge. Detailed knowledge of the drive hardware is just as unnecessary as programming the drive programs.

The W.A.S. also meets the requirements for Industry 4.0 applications. PCM (Permanent Current Monitoring) enables seamless condition monitoring and creates the basis for predictive maintenance. The auto-tuning function facilitates changes to the load or installation position by allowing the software to automatically determine the new parameters and adjust the drive controllers. By integrating the OPC UA interface, the W.A.S. also communicates directly and without detours with higher-level systems.

Cross table MK for the µ range
For a completely different field of application, Weiss presents its MK cross table for micro applications. The manufacturer offers the MK precisely tailored to the respective application. It is available in three different sizes with strokes from 160 x 160 millimetres to 335 x 335 millimetres. As standard, it is supplied in accuracy class AC1 including autocolimator measurement protocols. There are also options for the measuring system.

Thanks to its compact design and open-frame construction for transmitted light applications, the cross table has a wide range of applications. "With the MK series, we can offer a competitive 2-axis system for applications in the µ range," says Sven Haferkorn, Head of Sales and Application Engineering. To date, the MK has mainly been used in optical inspection machines for testing wafers. Other areas of application for the MK cross table include micro-laser processing, microscopy and micro-assembly.

Torque rotary table TO.

Weiss will also be presenting its TO torque rotary tables in various sizes at SPS IPC Drives. The directly driven TO rotary table is freely programmable and enables extremely short switching times with high repeat accuracy. A cleanroom-certified version for air cleanroom class 1 is also available.

The new LS Hybrid transfer system promises up to 20 percent faster cycle times. The further development of the LS 280 transfer system is based on a combination of mechanical cam drive and direct drive. The modular concept means that different requirements can be met precisely within a single line. as
