New e-chain concept with dynamic pins

Automatically increasing operational safety is the aim of the new Lokchain cable carrier system from Igus. Automatically extendable locking pins fix the e-chain in place, enabling new solutions for upright, suspended or circular applications.

With the Lokchain, Igus has developed a new concept consisting of an e-chain with automatically extendable locking pins and a compact guide trough for dynamic energy chain applications. The energy chain is guided securely in the trough at all times, allowing the system to be used hanging, standing or lying on its side with or without lateral acceleration. Even long travel distances with a moving lower run are possible by fixing the Lokchain in the upper run trough. The system can also be installed overhead or in vertical circular applications. For example, the Lokchain can be used in the compact space of a C-arm X-ray machine. The flexibility of the e-chain offers the user the opportunity to develop completely new machine concepts.

Automatic securing with bolt system

The underlying principle of the lLokchain is simple: pins integrated into the side parts hold the energy chain firmly in the guide channel. When the chain link folds into the radius, the pin automatically retracts and releases the chain from the guide. If the chain link then leaves the radius and hits the channel again, the pin extends again and hooks itself back into the rail. A simple self-locking mechanism with an extraordinary effect. This eliminates the need for complex guide troughs.

Due to the special design of the Lokchain, there is hardly any abrasion or wear, which increases the service life of the e-chain. The prototype was able to prove its durability in endurance tests in the company's own 2,750 square meter laboratory. According to Igus, another advantage of the new e-chain system is the mobility of the chain links. It ensures that the energy chain moves safely and quietly even with small bending radii and over long distances. The new e-chain is currently in the prototype phase, which gives customers the opportunity to help shape the required size and design. Individual requests are always welcome and are quickly implemented - from the production of prototypes and small series to large-scale production. as
