Design for everyone without a CAD program

Igus has now developed the spindle configurator so that every customer can quickly find the right threaded spindle and the corresponding drawing. Anyone can now use it to design their own individually manufactured and durable spindle.

Whether trapezoidal, steep or metric threads: in combination with nuts made from Iglidur high-performance polymers, spindles ensure lubrication-free adjustment with long-lasting and smooth running. However, the path to the right drive solution used to involve a great deal of effort and the necessary expertise in technical drawing.

From determining the correct parameters to processing the spindle, designing it with a CAD program and checking its technical plausibility through to ordering, the process took several hours to several days. This is why Igus has now developed a new tool for easy configuration of the optimum spindle, which directly checks the plausibility of the configuration.

In three steps, users can customize their spindle, edit the journals and generate a dimensioned drawing directly. They can then download the 3D model of their configuration and order the fully configured threaded spindle or request a binding quote.

The right spindle in three steps
Configuration is very quick and takes just three steps: In the first step, the customer can determine the thread type. In addition to the classic trapezoidal thread and the metric thread, the user also has the option of selecting the Dryspin steep thread. This is a thread patented by Igus that ensures a higher degree of efficiency thanks to an optimized flank angle. After selecting the thread type, the user can determine the thread direction, the material and the thread length.

The second step is to configure the tenon. Here, the configurator offers the user the option of editing the basic body from the outside to the inside and adding twelve standard elements such as chamfer, clamping surface or retaining ring to the tenon. During the configuration process, the designer can download the current dimensioned drawing directly at any time. Another service: The price of the spindle is displayed. This allows the user to see the price change during the machining process.

In the third step, the customer receives a complete overview of their configuration. They can download the step file for the further design of their application, save the configuration as a link for follow-up orders or share it with colleagues. The fully configured spindle can be ordered online with just one click. The order is automatically transmitted to the factory, where it starts within 30 minutes, the company promises. as
