Heavy-duty ball screws

Ball screw drive with double load rating

Thomson has launched a ball screw that has more than twice the load rating of a standard ball screw.

The newly developed models offer either more than double the load rating or ten times the running performance compared to conventional ball screws with identical performance points. Heavy-duty ball screws are suitable for demanding axis control applications, for example in injection molding systems, printing presses and large processing machines.

"By increasing the ball diameters and optimizing the ball tracks, we can now offer a ball screw that has more than twice the load rating of a comparable standard ball screw. And since roller screws firstly require a nut that is almost 50 percent larger and secondly cost 150 percent of a high-load ball screw, drive system designers now have an attractive opportunity to reduce costs and increase performance at the same time," explains Markus Brändle, Thomson Product Line Specialist, EMEA & Asia, for lead screws.

Replacement and maintenance costs for Thomson heavy duty ball screws are also reduced. This creates a favorable opportunity to replace roller screws or hydraulic systems wherever axes are required to move heavy loads accurately and safely, while ensuring long-lasting reliability and minimal maintenance. These applications include large processing machines, injection molding machines and metalworking machines or metal presses and molds.

The heavy-duty ball screws are available with a maximum spindle length of 15 meters and with either single or double nuts. The standard sizes range up to 160 millimetres in diameter and up to a dynamic load rating of 1,440 kilonewtons. Pre-tensioned versions are available on request, as are special versions adapted to customer-specific applications. as
