Schaeffler Mover wins German mobility award

The Schaeffler Mover has been awarded the German Mobility Prize by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the "Germany - Land of Ideas" initiative. According to the jury, the vehicle concept for urban areas makes a positive contribution to equal living conditions in Germany and fundamentally challenges current vehicle structures.

The small and highly maneuverable Schaeffler Mover vehicle concept is powered purely by electricity and can be used in urban areas for flexible transportation tasks, for example. Thanks to Schaeffler's Space Drive Paravan technology, it also provides the basis for autonomous driving. © Schaeffler

"The aim of the Schaeffler Mover is to provide the most universal and cost-effective platform for as many different passenger and goods transportation tasks as possible," says Dr. Manfred Kraus, Head of Mover Development, Schaeffler Paravan Technologie GmbH & Co. KG. The Schaeffler Mover won the competition with its Schaeffler Paravan technology Space Drive and the "Schaeffler Intelligent Corner Module". The core element of Space Drive is the drive-by-wire function, which, in addition to driving and braking, also enables the vehicle to be steered purely via electronic control signals. The steering, brakes and accelerator are therefore controlled via cables using electronic impulses. The steering wheel and the mechanical connection of the steering column can therefore be completely eliminated - an advantage for autonomous vehicles in particular. Space Drive has already proven itself in vehicles for people with disabilities and has TÜV and road approval.

Flexible in many rooms
The four drive modules ensure that the Schaeffler Mover is highly maneuverable: In the "Schaeffer Intelligent Corner Modules", all drive and chassis components are housed in one space-saving unit - wheel hub motor, wheel suspension including suspension and the electromechanical steering. Thanks to the electric drive, the mover is locally emission-free. The "Schaeffler Intelligent Corner Modules" also enable a wheel angle of up to 90 degrees. This allows the Schaeffler Mover to maneuver in narrow streets and even park sideways to allow passengers to get in and out. Turning on the spot is also possible.
