VX25 from Rittal

Large enclosure system saves time during assembly

After five years of development, Rittal has celebrated the premiere of its new VX25 large enclosure system. According to the manufacturer, it offers maximum data quality and data consistency, reduced complexity as well as time savings and safety during assembly.

After five years of development, Rittal celebrated the premiere of its new VX25 large enclosure system at the Hannover Messe 2018.

The VX25 is the first enclosure system that has been developed entirely in line with the requirements for increased productivity in control and switchgear manufacturing and those of Industry 4.0 value chains. "The market needs an enclosure that shortens throughput times in engineering and assembly, reduces complexity and fits into the digitalization megatrend as a fully-fledged building block," says Dr Thomas Steffen, Managing Director Research and Development at Rittal. He continues: "The new Rittal large enclosure has become 100 percent Industry 4.0-capable. Because only the combination of a real enclosure and its digital twin will meet all digitalization requirements in the future - from online configuration and engineering to assembly, automation, logistics and maintenance."

For Rittal, dialog with its customers played a decisive role in the development of the new large enclosure system. In a large-scale, scientifically based usability study, researchers documented in writing, pictures and film the everyday industrial life of control and switchgear manufacturers at ten companies in Germany, eight in the USA and six in China - including small, medium-sized and large companies.

150 Requirements for the new

As a result, 150 systematically collected and concrete requirements for a new enclosure emerged, which provided developers and product managers with a reliable basis for the actual development work. Rittal supplemented these with the findings of the customer advisory board, which was also involved.

The result of this development is the new VX25 large enclosure system. The name VX25 stands for the variety of possibilities, the fulfillment of X-fold customer requirements and for perfect symmetry thanks to a comprehensive, consistent 25-millimetre dimensional grid, according to the company. The customer benefits along the entire value chain of control and switchgear construction can be summarized in three key points: maximum data quality and consistency of data, reduced complexity as well as time savings and safety in assembly.

The core of the innovation is the new development of the frame profile. The profile determines the installation space, the efficiency of engineering and assembly, the expansion options, the stability and therefore the safety and flexibility in the customer's workshop. With the new large enclosure system, it has been possible to retain all the important and established product features of the previous, worldwide TS-8 large enclosure system and significantly expand them with a variety of new functions and customer benefits. Rittal also refers to more than 25 registered industrial property rights that demonstrate the degree of innovation of the VX25.

To be able to manufacture the new frame profile, Rittal has invested in new state-of-the-art production facilities. New fully automatic profiling systems and series production lines with a total of 31 welding and handling robots are available. The result: The frame profile of the VX25, which has a continuous 25-millimeter dimensional grid, is significantly more stable with the same weight as its predecessor TS 8. as
