Transparency in production
SW develops cloud solution further
Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen (SW) has developed its own cloud platform. This creates optimal conditions for performance monitoring and predictive maintenance. All functionalities are to be transferred from the previous cloud solution to the new system by 2020.
SW has been offering its customers access to machine data via a portal since 2004. In order to be able to present this information in a more modern and clearer way in future, SW has developed its own cloud solution based on GE's IIoT platform Predix, with which quality and production targets can be achieved even better.
With the existing platform, SW has been evaluating machine data for more than 15 years with the consent of its customers. Around 2,000 machines are currently connected, 700 million data points and 25 million machine events have been collected. The new SW Cloud Platform is a further development and offers continuous performance monitoring that ensures increased transparency across the entire production process. "A profile is stored for each of the connected machines worldwide, making all machine information and process data accessible via a dashboard. A world map and various production lines provide an initial overview of the machine locations and statuses," explains Jochen Heinz, Head of Industrial Data Services at SW.
The design of the user interface, including all graphics and statistics, is also clearly laid out; inconsistencies and problems in the operating process are particularly easy for users to identify. Attention was also paid to intuitive user guidance, which makes it easy to analyze errors. SW attaches particular importance to data security: "As the SW Cloud Platform stores a lot of data in one system, we have paid particular attention to this aspect," says Heinz.
The cloud solution is part of the holistic life service concept and belongs to the life data module: it expands the data services portfolio, which also includes digitalization consulting, energy monitoring, factory simulation and data analytics in addition to online services. These service modules are to be expanded further in the future. as
