Products speak OPC UA over TSN

B&R is launching a product portfolio for communication with the open and real-time-capable OPC UA over TSN protocol. The product range includes X20 controllers, bus controllers, industrial and panel PCs and a TSN machine switch. This enables a standardized network for modular and flexible machine concepts.

Thanks to the standardized network with OPC UA over TSN, the times when machine manufacturers had to offer a machine in variants with different control and bus systems are over. The multitude of interfaces has now become a single one. This interface exchanges standardized data with the network participants. The development and operation of machines and systems is simplified.

The configuration of OPC UA over TSN devices and the network as well as the assignment of access rights are integrated into B&R's Automation Studio automation software. On the one hand, this allows the configuration to run automatically and, on the other hand, the application effort for modular machines is kept low thanks to ready-made software modules. Devices from different manufacturers, such as drives and controllers, can be connected without additional effort. The developer does not have to program any code, only set parameters.

18 times faster
A network with OPC UA over TSN is plug-and-produce-capable and is easy to manage and configure. At the same time, network participants can communicate up to 18 times faster than with all protocols previously available on the market. This opens up new possibilities, particularly in the area of highly synchronous drive applications and control tasks.

OPC UA enables fully integrated and transparent communication from the sensor to the cloud. By adding TSN, the protocol enables IT and OT to merge into a common network and thus forms the basis for all applications in the Industrial IoT. The technology allows several 10,000 nodes in a network and benefits from bandwidth expansions of the Ethernet standard, so that even large amounts of data remain manageable without any problems - for example for applications for intelligent condition monitoring or predictive maintenance. as
