Communication between production and building
HMS Networks introduces an Intesis protocol converter for communication between manufacturing Profinet PLCs and BACnet IP/MSTP building management systems. This enables integration, monitoring and control of data between manufacturing and buildings.
The automatic monitoring and control of temperature, humidity and air quality also plays an important role in production to ensure optimum environmental conditions for the manufacturing process and employees. By efficiently controlling heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and lighting systems, plant operators can save energy and also react safely in an emergency.
However, system integrators are often confronted with a heterogeneous communication landscape when integrating buildings. The BACnet protocol is normally used in building management systems (BMS). In manufacturing, Profinet is widely used to control production processes. With the new Profinet-BACnet IP/MSTP protocol converter, HMS Networks offers a communication solution that is easy for the user to put into operation. The protocol converter enables bidirectional communication between Profinet PLCs and BACnet controllers. The protocol converter supports up to 1,200 data points. It is a BACnet IP/MSTP server/slave on one side and a Profinet IO device on the other. The protocol converter has BTL certification for BACnet and carries the UL marking, which guarantees the highest communication and quality standards.
The module connects manufacturing and building systems, which makes interesting applications possible. For example, a BACnet-based building management system can measure the energy consumption of devices and machines in production. Conversely, the HVAC equipment can be monitored and controlled by the Profinet PLC. Alarms can also be defined and managed.
Intesis MAPS is the configuration tool for Intesis protocol converters that allows system integrators to configure both sides of the protocol converter. Operation is intuitive. MAPS also provides the EDE files for BACnet integration as well as the GSD files and the TAG files for the TIA portal for configuring the Profinet PLC.
