Controller platforms

Multifunctional controller platform

Siemens is expanding its portfolio of Simatic S7-1500 advanced controllers with the multifunctional CPU 1518(F)-4 PN/DP MFP platform. This allows high-level language functions to be integrated and stand-alone applications to be created and reused. The platform combines a controller with tasks previously outsourced to a PC. Existing C/C++ algorithms can continue to be used and the data exchange between PC and controller, which previously had to be programmed, is simplified. The hardware works with the Simatic embedded operating system. The user programs controller-independent C/C++ applications using standard programming tools such as Eclipse. These run parallel to the control program on the platform. Additional PC hardware is not required. Users can also use model-based development tools such as Matlab Simulink and transfer their functions to the new controller. The new platform can be used from TIA Portal V15.

Controller platform

Two new CPUs complement the portfolio for mid-range motion control tasks. The technology CPU 1516T-3 PN/DP and fail-safe technology CPU 1516TF-3 PN/DP combine standard, safety and motion control functionalities. The company is thus expanding the motion control functionalities of all Simatic S7-1500 technology CPUs to include the control of 2D to 4D kinematics. This enables handling applications such as pick & place, Cartesian gantry, delta picker or Scara robots. am
