Charge amplifier with IO-Link technology

The miniature charge amplifier with IO-Link from Kistler combines analog and digital communication technology. It is suitable for a wide range of applications in robotics, the packaging industry, the food and beverage sector or for original equipment manufacturers.

With the 5028A charge amplifier, Kistler is launching the first charge amplifier on the market that can output analog signals from piezoelectric sensors as digital measurement data using IO-Link technology. Users benefit from the high rigidity and dynamics of piezoelectric measurement technology as well as the interference resistance of digital data and continuous communication right up to sensor level. The IO-Link technology provides real-time data for monitoring the system and measuring chain statuses. For example, predictive maintenance measures can be initiated on the system if data is regularly outside the target range. If the IO-Link component is replaced, the new parameters are automatically adopted.

With the digital interface of the 5028A charge amplifier, Kistler is taking a further step towards the end-to-end networked factory in the sense of Industry 4.0. Users receive reliable data for process evaluation that they can process immediately. As the 5028A already digitizes the raw analogue signal in the amplifier, the interference caused by inductive or capacitive coupling that occurs in conventional analogue systems can be avoided right from the start. The complex individual wiring of the analog and control signals is also eliminated.

Nevertheless, the 5028A can also be used as an analog charge amplifier with reset and operate input. It provides the performance for controlling fast processes with low latency and jitter. Stefan Affeltranger, Product Manager in the Production Monitoring division at Kistler: "The 5028A charge amplifier is the world's first amplifier for measurement data from piezoelectric sensors whose communication is based on IO-Link. The device therefore fits easily into almost any industrial application where lightweight components and simple solutions are required."

Flexible use thanks to standard interface
The interfaces to both the upstream sensor and the downstream customer system comply with industry standards. This means that the charge amplifier can be integrated into any existing network that supports IO-Link. In addition to simple and economical installation, this ensures that the data is transmitted securely. Kistler is thus taking a further step towards standardizing the proprietary connection types into common standards. This simplifies the use of the products. Customers can now set even the smallest amplifier from Kistler according to their own requirements.

Thanks to its compact dimensions, the 5028A charge amplifier saves space and can be easily positioned on robot heads or other moving parts. In addition to general plant engineering, the new charge amplifier can also be used in industries such as medical technology, as the setting changes can be verified at any time. The good price-performance ratio underlines the economic advantages of IO-Link technology, which are also emphasized by the IO-Link consortium. as
