RFID direction recognition

Detects goods and direction of movement

Kathrein presents its new product ARU 8500 Reader with integrated circular switch beam antenna. It enables goods and their direction of movement to be detected without any doubt.

Ubiquity stands for the ability to be present everywhere. However, it is also a requirement of industrial production or logistics processes that goods or merchandise in motion are recorded at all times and without gaps. The transitions between production areas or individual links in the supply chain are of central importance here. The new reader from Kathrein is characterized by a higher computer performance and thus a fast reading process as well as increased reading reliability - even under difficult conditions.

Fast identification
The core function of the ARU 8500 is a circular switch beam antenna. In contrast to standard RFID antennas, the antenna beam can be swiveled into three areas and thus track the direction of movement in a portal or access gate. The otherwise simply detected passage area is divided into three zones in order to clearly identify the direction of movement in the access gate.

One advantage of this is that moving goods that move through all three reading zones can be distinguished from static readings that have only taken place in one zone. This means that only the goods and merchandise are recorded and the flow of goods can be transparently displayed and tracked. There is no need for additional sensors such as light barriers. This means that the flow of goods can be clearly identified and production or logistics processes can be controlled and optimized.

The ARU 8500 Reader also has a robust housing design made from industry-standard injection-molded aluminum, with a plastic cover for the circular switch beam antenna. As a result, according to the manufacturer, it guarantees a long service life and optimum performance in all logistics and production environments.

The reader is equipped with four high-performance LEDs. This enables visualization of the active antenna or feedback of the goods read per antenna. The LEDs provide a uniform and intensive display that can be flexibly adjusted in terms of color, intensity and flashing frequency.

The new device is suitable for detecting the transfer of goods in the industrial, logistics and retail sectors. This feature is used at loading gates to identify goods and their direction of movement, but also as an anti-theft system to check whether the goods have been paid for when leaving the store. By identifying goods, vehicles, pallets and merchandise, logistics processes can be better managed and controlled. as
