Two-speed valve
Safe valves for pneumatic switching of operating modes
With the Two-Speed-Valve, SMC presents a standardized, safe valve for pneumatic switching of operating modes in accordance with VDMA 66416 and DIN EN 12417. Included is a valve position query, including a safe signal to the safety PLC.
The completely newly designed valve with the series designation VZM5-300-CEW20057 consists of a pneumatically actuated valve, two throttles and a valve spool monitor in a red anodized aluminium housing. The two-speed valve can be used to safely implement all common operating modes of a machine, from set-up mode and automatic mode to maintenance and repair mode. Both modes - operational and safely reduced speed - can be implemented with one component for the first time. At the same time, the valve has safe detection of the valve position. This is passed on to the higher-level PLC by means of a safe changeover contact.
"This world first raises the level of safety in the interaction between man and machine to a higher level," explains Nicolas Martin-Antequera, Key Account Manager at SMC Germany. The "Two-Speed-Valve is a standardized and validated component. It has the potential to replace individualized solutions, freeing users from the task of solving even the highly complex issue of machine safety."
Depending on the available space, the valve is mounted as close as possible to the cylinder or, ideally, directly on the actuator. When troubleshooting within the system or during maintenance work, the valve and cylinder can be quickly assigned at a glance. There is no need to lay out individually designed constructions. In addition, the red anodized housing identifies the two-speed valve as a safe component at first glance. The usual type plate has been replaced by a lasered marking. This not only looks classy, but also ensures that all type information is permanently available. Fittings and chokes are also made of metal. They are therefore resistant to many media and permanently durable. The electrical connection is made via an M12 plug. An additional safety aspect is that the two-speed valve can be operated completely outside the danger zone via a manual control unit during maintenance or servicing work. A second employee or access to the machine zone is not required.
The two-speed valve is suitable for many applications. After all, the Machinery Directive, VDMA 66416 and DIN EN 12417 stipulate that all machines must be operated safely in the interaction between man and machine. Customers do not need to develop their own safety concepts for the different operating modes and receive a validated safe component that enables safe function in different operating modes.
